Materials
There are 3 wood species throughout the home.
The ceilings are Clear V-Groove Cedar Plank.
The Master Suite is Zebrano Wood Veneer.
The Fireplace & Entry are Afromosia.
Wet Bar
In keeping with the home’s “Playboy Pad” history, the location of the built-in wet bar was redesigned in gray laminate. As in the original house, the walls are white, but the interior is warmed by the brown-gray concrete floors and the cedar planks used on the ceiling.
Fireplace
The original cylindrical fireplace was replaced with a custom fireplace set into a hand-built wall of oiled Afrormosia, an African teak. The wood-clad wall with back-to-back fireplaces separates the Master bedroom from the living space. Two mirrors were installed at the wall opening in the ceiling to give the illusion of looking into the next room without sacrificing privacy.
Detail
Pieces of mirror in the living room ceiling give the illusion that the wall is open at the top.
Master
The owners decided to turn the home’s former office into a closet, so a custom floating workstation was designed that fits back-to-back with the master bed’s headboard, separating the two functioning areas within the same space.
Master Bath
The glass door slides into a pocket, converting the master shower into an outdoor one. The walls are Venetian plaster, which is meant to look like concrete.
Kitchen / Dining
The cabinetry is done in a taupe-gray laminate that looks like grayed oak.
Flooring
The original shiny white terrazzo floors were replaced with a low-sheen brown-gray concrete floor that infuses a calm earthiness to the house.
Pool / Spa
The pool’s original footprint was reduced and its corners were squared off.
